Thoughts from Chief Sjolander…
“Don’t mean to interrupt your lunch”…
We have been very busy lately, so that means eating when you can, and sometimes, that means eating in the squad while typing a report.
This was my lunch yesterday. I was sitting in my squad, eating when a person walked up and said, “Excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt your lunch, but I just wanted to say thanks for all you guys do, you’re appreciated, and I hope you have a safe day.”
I thanked them, shook their hand, and they walked away.
Here’s what I wanted to say… “Are you kidding me, you didn’t interrupt my lunch, you just made my day. I’m sitting here trying to eat something I microwaved over a half an hour ago and I’m feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and defeated because I’m so far behind on getting reports done, phone calls made, emails returned, bills coded for payment, etc.
You gave me a moment of your time, some kind words, and made me feel valued. For that, I thank you.
