New IACP Model Policies Available on IACP Net!

IACP Net members can now download three new releases from the International Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Policy Center!

The IACP is also including a new document available from the Policy Center – Need to Know…. The goal of this document is to provide a brief overview of the key points for each policy topic. In addition, each topic will now feature a PDF “binder” – this file contains all of the documents available for the topic in one easy to access file!

  • Eyewitness Identification
These documents provide agencies with guidelines for eyewitness identification procedures involving showups, photo arrays, and lineups in order to maximize the reliability of identifications, minimize erroneous identifications, and gather evidence that conforms to contemporary eyewitness identification protocols.
  • Interactions with Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
These updated documents provide law enforcement officers with information about behaviors and characteristics of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs) so that they can recognize and appropriately interact with such individuals.
  • Investigation of Hate Crimes
The goal of these documents is to assist agencies in establishing guidelines for identifying and investigating hate crimes and assisting victimized individuals and communities, while recognizing that a swift and strong response by law enforcement can help stabilize and calm the community as well as aid in a victim’s recovery.
